This time I'm going to thoroughly enjoy saying "I told you so," to the late Rockphiler Thee Guest.
You can't have an artist who may write good songs for the teen set, is obviously a pretty nice gal, but CAN'T SING WORTH A SHIT!!!
At LAST the rest of the public seems to have caught on after this lamentable performance on the Grammys.
Watch at your own risk. Drag it to about 2:40. OMG! WTF! and so on.

I have to agree that this performance (by both ladies but especially Nicks) was pretty mediocre and am surprised that Stevie Nicks even deigned to appear as the support singer. How will Stevie benefit from this ? _________________ Taking one day at a time means not having to worry about all of next week! |

Well, I'm sure they told her that Taylor wished to perform with an "icon" and Stevie was flattered. That's all I can think of.
Bob Welch (formerly of Fleetwood Mac) posts on The Ledge and he said that Stevie was actively trying to modulate her harmonies to fit Taylor's, to no avail.
When you're harmonizing with someone who's off-key, you can't sound good. It's as simple as that.
Taylor Swift blew it big-time. The reaction to her is almost universally negative. DESERVEDLY so.
She seems like a nice girl. The songs she writes appeal to a lot of kids.
But SHE. CAN'T. SING. _________________ GlennFreyOnline.com

The Taylor Swift/Stevie Nicks duet performance during the Grammy Awards was very painful. Stevie looked like she wanted to run off stage and Taylor, full of energy, appeared oblivious to the fact that she was singing completely off key.
The above quote borrowed from a blogger on The Ledge pretty much sums up my feelings as well. I certainly got the impression that Nicks wanted the ground to swallow her up - but which 'her' _________________ Taking one day at a time means not having to worry about all of next week! |

WTF does someone like Nicks get involved in these contrived and exploitive performances anyway. That Swift/Nicks thing was awkward and painful, even if you could look past the vocals.
I’ve never seen Swift sing well on TV. The first time, a few years ago, I figured she’s inexperienced and didn’t get the monitors right or something. Even George Strait was off pitch that night, and I know George can sing!. After several more appearances, it was getting pretty obvious. Fortunately for her, people like her writing....(hopefully it’s HER writing ).
My wife thinks I’m too analytical and critical of performers on these shows, but it’s my nature. Listening to the Nicks/Swift thing, she says, “That doesn’t sound right.” I say, “What have I been saying about her (Swift) on those other shows?”
BTW, those were two Idol contestants up there holding their own with some of the best during that Michael Jackson thing........and Smokey Robinson still gots it.
And who were those little kids talking about Jackson? |

Those kids blew my mind. I thought they were much younger (I didn't watch Jackson's memorial so I hadn't seen his children). Time passes so quickly. _________________ GlennFreyOnline.com

Jokingly, I ask my wife (after the kids are introduced), “Who are those kids?” She says, “Michael Jackson’s kids. Didn’t you hear?” Then I say, “Yeah, I heard. But seriously, who are those kids?”
They look like they carry about as much of Michael Jackson’s DNA as my kids do. |

I hadn't heard that Taylor Swift is in fact the progeny of a wealthy trucker and Daddy has been pouring a ton o' loot into his little girl's career. On top of which, it is suspected that she doesn't actually write her own material as a certain Liz Rose is constantly credited.
I found this blog entry from the Tennessean by the indignant Scott Borchetta interesting, not because of his huffin' and puffin', but because of the comments from readers in Nashville and thereabouts.

MTV'ers also seem to dislike Taylor these days.

Yeah, those little Jackson kids were an odd note weren't they? Paris reminds me of the daughter in Absolutely Fabulous. But as for his DNA, I doubt it. And they don't exactly remind me of Debbie Rowe either. |

You don't see Debbie Rowe's eyes in the daughter? |

Great stage lighting FX . Roger's voice is not what it was but, then again, the same could be said of similar 'belters' such as Robert Plant, Rod Stewart or David Coverdale _________________ Taking one day at a time means not having to worry about all of next week! |

They may work to beefed-up tracks, but I don't believe Springsteen, Petty, Prince or Roger, for that matter, lip-synched. Janet Jackson may have. |
