I see tickets for London are not on sale until next week, so maybe other UK venues will be announced between now and then. Try Google searches or check ticket/venue websites as well. In the meantime, hang in there and . Hope it works out! _________________ You can take the girl out of Wales, but you can't take Wales out of the girl!

CSN - Revisited!
Once is not enough ! Those were the words I uttered last year after having seen CSN live for the first time in 38 years. So, when they announced a further tour for 2010, I just had to go. Liverpool’s Echo Arena is relatively new and, although the capacity was deliberately halved for this particular concert, the sound was infinitely crisper than the cavernous and half empty Manchester arena they played in 2009.
The first set featured numbers involving the whole band but the second set was predominantly an acoustic affair featuring Crosby, Stills and Nash only. As last year, the extended version of Deja Vu allowed each band member to be formally introduced and, with exception of the drummer, to demonstrate their instrumental prowess to the full. What I like about Joe Vitale is that he is not an egocentric drummer; he just gets on with it and does it well, with no fuss or airs and graces.
This being Liverpool, the home of the Beatles and the Cavern, Graham paid respect to this day also marking Ringo Starr’s 70th birthday. There was a deliberate quirky passing tribute to the Beatles with the inclusion of She Loves You’s “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” during Long May You Run. Just before Guinnevere, Crosby and Nash sang a short acapella number but I didn’t recognise it and, at the time of writing, have only Crosby’s opening line of "Who are the men……". for reference and future research, unless someone else knows the answer?
Stephen’s guitar playing is as stunning as ever and his voice has actually improved since 2009. I detected very few wobbles this year compared to last when he appeared to struggle with some of his own party pieces. This year they appear to have programmed Graham to act as assistant lead vocal on Rock and Roll Woman and this actually helps the vocal quality of this song a great deal.
The band were in excellent humour, exchanging quips with the audience and each other. Graham stated that they would be here until next Tuesday if they played every song that they had ever written - to which the audience responded with thunderous applause and approval. The ageing Crosby likened his own shape “to an avocado” but, oh, what a sublime voice he has. He thanked Jackson Browne for persuading him to finish writing the intensely personal Delta and I’m sure that half the civilised world probably thanks him as well!
Overall, it was a great concert with an eclectic mix of crowd favourites, their personal favourites and ongoing trials of cover numbers for their promised new album. I have to say that all these covers sound very, very impressive live and a lot better than the Youtube recordings around. The whole evening was, once again, unforgettable but notable highlights for me were Stills’ Rock and Roll Woman, Crosby’s Delta and the exquisite harmonies of Crosby and Nash on Cathedral and Guinnevere.
The only negative moment for me came at the encore when some inebriated female appeared from nowhere, invaded my space and proceeded to wave her arms in front of me whilst screaming loudly at the band. What made it doubly galling was the fact that I managed to drop the thrown drumstick that Joe had personally signalled was mine if I wanted it and the security guard who deliberately gave it to said screaming female rather than me. I guess that’s show business but Joe, if you’re reading this, could you possibly send me another one please! PS I was the guy in the stars and stripes do-rag!

Nice review WB - You have summed it up very well. Last night was my first time seeing CSN live and your words are spot on - Once is NOT enough! I knew it was going to be magical, and then some! I can't add much more to what you have already said, other than I share your notable highlights. Delta was lovely and Crosby's harmonies were also incredible on Deja Vu. Crosby and Nash really shone on Cathedral and Rock And Roll Woman rocked. Stills' outstanding guitar work received a well deserved standing ovation. I also thought all the covers sounded impressive live. Ruby Tuesday and Behind Blue Eyes were particulary enjoyable, to name but a few.
It was a memorable evening indeed!
Btw, it was great seeing you there, WB! I think everyone enjoyed as much as we did. How cool that Joe personally signalled his drumstick to you, but sorry the security guard gave it to that screaming woman who invaded your space.
I found this clip of Rock And Roll Woman - the actual sound blew me away!

It's possible that the missing song, ahead of Guinnevere is a revamped version of Crosby's What Are Their Names - The lyrics sound vaguely familiar but I must admit to struggling to place this one at the time! _________________ Taking one day at a time means not having to worry about all of next week! |
