Very interesting book with lots of photos (The Who, The Faces, Joe Walsh, even one of DH, some really GREAT Seger pics) and stories.
It sounds like (Haven't had the time to sit and read the entire thing so I've just been skimming) in the middle of putting together this book, Tom had major heart surgery. From the chapter titled Walsh Says It's My Destiny :
Walsh says it's my destiny. "Yeah, man, that's the only reason you're still alive - it's to finish the book."
He ought to know; he offered to foot my whole $100,000 medical tab. Of course, I turned him down. But the gesture meant more than I can say.
Joe gave Pete Townsend a $20,000 Flying V guitar in 1989 prior to the Who's big reunion tour but Pete sold it on eBay. Pete says he was broke!

April 2006 - the Who convention. Tom Wright is meeting Pete Townshend at his Eel Pie Studios -
Sitting on the leather couch, reading a worn copy of Billboard, was Alan Rogan, Pete's longtime roly-poly guitar tech. He looked up, surprised to see me. The digital camera that hung around my neck - about the size of a thick stage pass, the only digital I could ever operate - was one that he'd given me at our last meeting four years earlier. And standing by the coffee pot was Bob Pridden, Who roadie since 1961, looking exactly like Ben Franklin - bald head ringed with short, white hair, small wire glasses balanced on his nose. Pridden's never missed a gig, he'll proudly tell you after he's known you awhile.
Brian, the kid, left to announce my arrival to Pete.
I settled on the couch next to Alan and asked him if he was still working with the Eagles. "No thanks," he said. "They suddenly wanted me to fly economy everywhere and I took it as the slap in the face that it was." |

This was the same reaction I got from the wife of the tech at the supermarket.
They really think they can get away with this shit, too. |
