Wondered about that Instrumental. I like the mellow mood of the song. But a Grammy? I never would have thought that one would have won an award over the rest that were up for recognition.
I meant the other Eagle's songs up for recognition. I'm not familiar with the other "instrumentals" in the POP category. _________________ MikeA |

I guess they tanked in all the other categories they were nominated in - oh well.
I've long felt that Glenn is a talented composer, who doesn't particularly need lyrics to get his point across. The emotional underpinnings of the Eagles music has always been via his arranging talents. The outro of WITW is pretty good too. Just the vocal 'oohs' and the instrumentation gets the point across. |

I'm so glad that they were almost shut out - none of those songs deserved anything. Plant and Krauss made and album for art sake and the Grammy praised them for it.
I love that effort.
Eagles made an alnum to raise money and I'm glad the Grammys didn't inflate their bank accont further.
That Frey song only won because of its title. I bet many of the voters never bothered to hear the darn thing. _________________ Bottom of the barrel |

I'm thrilled that I Dreamed There Was No War won a Grammy. I find it very moving.
While I don't presume to know the thoughts of the Academy, I daresay that if politics were foremost on their minds when picking winners, "Long Road Out of Eden" would not have lost the award for Best Rock Performance to "Sex on Fire." _________________ GlennFreyOnline.com

She sure does!
As for the song, it's quite beautiful and it makes me think of peace.... which is obviously the idea. It's both calming and wistful, almost mourning but hopeful at the same time. It's hard to explain, but I love it. I had the honor of hearing it live at Niagara Falls.... it was amazing. _________________ GlennFreyOnline.com

I like the piece as well. It sounds very much like an Irish lament to me.
Of course the NARAS members heard it. Their vote had nothing to do with politics, like Dr. Nancy says. It's a well-crafted instrumental. I really don't know why he titled it the way he did, he could have called it Song For The Old Sod, and it still would have worked. |

so now it's a piece - excuuuuuuuse me!
A grammy winning Piece of
music.
How can the Grammys suck and the song great for winning a Grammy?
With its title, it can not help but be politcal.
Would the song have won, if it was called, Peace and calm? I doubt it.
It's like giving the teacher an apple - they stroke the liberal voters and won.
and "Doctor" - My eyes have seen the Hypocrisy. _________________ Bottom of the barrel |

The instrumental isn't great because it won a Grammy (as Glenn once infamously noted, "Who needs the Grammys, we're waiting for The Ouncies.")
It wouldn't have been entitled Peace and Calm based on the concept of the album (also a fairly sucky title overall). Nor does it strike me as being specifically about the Iraq situation, but about all wars.
The Irish have been plagued with conflict and strife since the reign of Elizabeth I. Glenn is an Irishman and he feels for the situation personally, reflected in the music. The title indicates that the idea of peace is nothing but a dream, and the music has a wistful feel. A bit like the Sad Cafe.
I really like his concert in Dublin, second only to the Eagles in New Zealand. |

you have got to be kidding me!
You heard of all that in that song?
The Dublin concert is good, when he still had something that resembled his voice. _________________ Bottom of the barrel |

It's not a song. Song implies singer. Nobody's singing.
Perhaps you should spend time listening to instrumental music, and making your own mind up about the intent, instead of letting lyrics dictate the mood.
Why do you insist he sound like he did in his 20s? Does the idea of Glenn actually being a grown-up bother you for some reason? |

hahahaha - I like that.

I didn't say I could not or do not appreciate instrumentals, what I'm saying it, clear and and precisely, that song won because of its title.

Grown up - well that's what happened in his 20's - he did all the growing he was going to do, 35 years ago, now it's more like pruned up.
I don't like the fall!
By the way, Ms. Pop needs to take that woman's leg down. That's outright pornography. _________________ Bottom of the barrel |
